Bananas alone have accounted for over 60% Honduras's agricultural export sales. And even with a drop in international banana prices, Honduras still ended up with a profit. THis is because of an increase in the production rate of the yummy, yellow fruit. An increase made possible by improved pesticide and fertilization methods in the country.
I liked this article because it talks about Honduras as if it is an underdog, due to the drop in international banana prices, but they made the come back, and ended up profiting. Bananas might one day beat out coffee in Honduras for the countries number one export.
This article connects to Honduran culture because of how much agriculture and the growth of bananas impact the lives of these people. Bananas are not just a source of money, but a source of food an culture in Honduras.
