When polled by a local search engine, over half of Austrians have an fear of traveling on airplanes. Many use methods of hypnosis, or meditation to calm them selfs when flying. Some even turn to alcohol to ease their nerves. Nearly half of those saying they feared air travel claim to avoid flying at all, they instead use trains and cars to move about.
This article mad me sad in a way because of the Austrians distrust in airlines and the safety of planes. It also mad me wonder if they had good cause for such feelings. I wish that this was a more developed and in depth story, instead of the jumble of statistics that it is, because I am highly interested in the topic.
This relates to the culture of Austria because it is a shared feeling by many of their people. It also shows the methods they use to cope with their fears, which seem to vary from our own in the US. I don't know of many people that turn straight to hypnotherapy to treat an anxiety.
