When a well known cyclist is hit and killed on the roads while biking in Dominical, a revolution began. Pro-Cycilist activists banned together creating the Spanish equivalent of "Share the road" signs, and even a line of car deodorizers to promote biking safety on the streets of Costa Rica. This group would like to change the unfriendly mentality towards cyclist, and make Costa Rica known, not only for good mountain biking, but good road biking as well.
I found this article very insightful about everyday life in Costa Rica, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Though I am not a bike rider myself, I know that many people in my own community have been pushing for bike equality on the roads, just as this group in Costa Rica has.
This article relates to Costa Rican culture because of its references to the attitude towards cyclists. They are currently not a large cycling culture like some American states have recently become.
